Exploring an Bizarre Steam Demo: Playing as a Poop on a Quest to Reach the Toilet

Steam Next Fest is now live, and players have discovered numerous engaging independent titles. However, one stands out for its offbeat concept. Called Unko Technica, this old-school styled side-scrolling game lets you play a character that is literally a dung trying to navigate to a toilet. In case you're wondering, "Unko" means "poop."

The gameplay is easy to grasp: just use a one button to leap. Across one hundred fifty levels, encounter mini-bosses and access a store to purchase outfits for your dung hero.

Time your jumps with caution, as a mistake forces restarting the level. Leap on air pockets to hurl your character higher, navigate fragile platforms, and interact with switches to unlock secret routes. Earn coins and use them on more difficult levels as things intensifies.

Visually, the game shows off neon stages and a killer background music. The simple art of morphing basic polygons could recall gamers of classic titles like Earthbound.

While it's tough to think of previous releases where you control a piece of feces, interactive entertainment frequently incorporated scatological themes. For example, in Death Stranding, you can make throwables from character droppings. Games like Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved employ feces as soil enrichment. Naturally, this theme appears extensively in Obsidian's role-playing game The Stick of Truth.

Putting aside its humorous idea, Unko Technica has already garnered notable awards, like being named best at Bandai Namco's indie contest in 2023. This trial version is available currently on Steam, with the complete version scheduled to debut on Steam on November 19.
